A reminder is for you. It produces a notification on your screen or your phone telling you to do something — call them back, send the quote, check the payment. Nothing reaches the customer.
A cadence is the opposite: a series of messages that go out to the customer over days until they reply. That is a different feature with its own controls and its own ceilings — see how cadences work.
The one place they meet is that a reminder type can be configured to send customer messages when a booking is made or is coming up — a Meeting confirmation, for example. That is off by default on all three built-in types, and you turn it on per type in Settings.
Reminders are on Essentials and up. Push notifications need the phone app installed, which is free — but the reminders they carry are part of the paid plans.
Three by default: Follow-up, Todo and Meeting. Meetings carry a length, 30 minutes unless you change it; the other two are a point in time. You can add your own types in Settings, and archive ones you stop using — archiving keeps existing reminders working rather than deleting them.
